State Farm is the largest homeowner insurance carrier in Indiana — and in our experience, also one of the more reasonable to work with on legitimate restoration claims when the scope is properly documented. The key word is properly.
The single thing that goes wrong on most State Farm restoration claims
Under-scoped initial estimates. State Farm field adjusters are highly trained but they typically visit your property once, usually for 30-60 minutes, and write a scope from what they can visually verify on that walk-through. They cannot see inside walls. They cannot detect moisture content in framing. They cannot always assess soft-goods damage from smoke. They cannot know how far hidden water has wicked up the studs.
The result is an initial scope that often misses 15-30% of the actual covered damage. That gap is real money out of your pocket — typically $5K-$30K on a midsize claim — unless someone on your side documents the rest and pushes back.
That is what we do.
What we bring to a State Farm claim
- Full Xactimate scope documentation. Xactimate is the industry-standard scoping software State Farm adjusters use. We write our own scope in the same software, line by line, with the same pricing database. When we submit our scope to your adjuster, it is in the format they read every day.
- Moisture mapping and thermal imaging. We document moisture content in framing, drywall, insulation, and subfloor materials. We can prove where water has wicked that is not visually obvious.
- Walk-through attendance. If you want us there when the State Farm adjuster comes out, we are there. Asking questions, pointing out hidden damage, ensuring the adjuster sees what we have already documented.
- Soft-goods inventory. Clothing, linens, area rugs, draperies. We pack out, document, and clean or list for replacement.
- Real-time communication with the adjuster. We send daily moisture readings and progress reports directly to your adjuster so the claim file stays current.
- Pushback when scope is short. Once we have submitted our Xactimate scope, we follow up on every line item the adjuster questions. We do not roll over on under-scoped items.

Common State Farm coverage questions
Does my State Farm policy cover sudden water damage from a burst pipe? Almost always yes. Standard HO-3 policies cover sudden and accidental water damage from plumbing failures.
Does it cover sump pump failure water? Only if you have the water/sewer backup endorsement. Without it, sump pump backups are typically excluded. Check your declarations page.
Does it cover mold? Usually with limits. Standard State Farm policies in Indiana typically include a mold cap (commonly $5,000-$10,000) for mold caused by a covered water loss. Mold from long-term leaks or gradual moisture is typically excluded.
Does it cover fire? Yes — fire is a named covered peril on every standard homeowner policy. Coverage applies to dwelling, contents, and additional living expenses (ALE) while the home is uninhabitable.
Note on the "preferred vendor" question
Some restoration companies are formally in State Farm's "Premier Service Program" or similar referral network. We are not. That is a deliberate choice — being in a carrier's preferred network often limits a contractor's ability to advocate against under-scoped repairs, because the contractor's relationship with the carrier matters more than the contractor's relationship with the homeowner. We work with State Farm successfully on dozens of claims per year while keeping our advocacy independent.

Frequently asked questions
Are you a State Farm preferred vendor?
Not formally. We chose not to enter that program so we can advocate independently for homeowners against under-scoped repairs. We still work with State Farm on dozens of claims a year.
How do I file a State Farm water damage claim?
Call 1-800-STATE-FARM (1-800-782-8332) or use the State Farm mobile app. Get your claim number. Then call us — we begin mitigation immediately while the adjuster is assigned.
Does State Farm cover sump pump failure water?
Only with the water/sewer backup endorsement. Without it, sump pump backups are typically excluded.
How much does Guardian Angel charge?
We bill State Farm direct based on agreed scope. You typically pay only your deductible.
Do I need claim approval before you start?
No. We begin emergency mitigation immediately. Waiting compounds damage and complicates the claim.
