- USAA assigns a field adjuster, typically within 24-48 hours (faster than most carriers).
- We begin emergency mitigation immediately — no claim approval needed.
- Documentation begins: photos, thermal imaging, moisture readings, soft-goods inventory.
- We attend the USAA adjuster walk-through with you.
- We submit our Xactimate scope. Differences with the adjuster's scope negotiated line by line.
- Final scope agreed. USAA issues payment. Work proceeds.
- Final walkthrough room by room.

What USAA typically covers
Sudden water damage — burst pipes, appliance failures, water heater bursts: covered under standard HO-3.
Sump pump failure water — only with the water/sewer backup endorsement.
Mold — typically capped (commonly $10,000) for mold caused by a covered loss.
Fire — covered (dwelling, contents, ALE).
Storm/wind/hail — covered, sometimes with a separate wind/hail deductible.
